What I’ve Learned Along The Way

//

Re-occurring dreams are telling you something of great importance.

Since I was a teenager, I remember having dreams where I am flying. I would have them every few years. These dreams were fun for me to experience. I’ve always wanted to fly!

In March of 2016, I took a trip to Bethel Church in California where I unexpectedly found out what these dreams meant. Out of 50 people in the room, Bob Johnson asked, “who has had dreams where you are flying?” I immediately stood up along with two other people. Was there something unique about these dreams? I was about to find out.

Bob explained that these dreams represent you hearing from God and seeing from His perspective. I couldn’t believe it! After all these years, I understood what flying meant in relation to God.

I ran to the church bookstore and found out more about dream interpretation. Flying above certain places can also be an indicator that there is a grace for you to pray over that place, those people, or that situation. It all made so much sense to me. I began asking for more of those dreams. God has given them to me in His timing. They look different each time— revealing something new to me.

It’s about you and God. It’s not about you becoming a super spy detective, uncovering the next greatest mystery in your life. It’s not about becoming a great dream interpreter or impressing your friends with cool testimonies. It’s about you and God growing in trust and in love. He is speaking and you are listening.

If you have a bad dream, take a moment to discern whether there can be a God message to come from it. I can be so quick to throw away a bad dream because it is disturbing or I just don’t want to remember it anymore.

Last night, I had one of those dreams. I knew that there was an important message hidden within. I didn’t need to write down all the scary details. I needed to record the encouragement that God has for me. All I wrote down from that dream is, “God is protecting what is most precious to you.”

He will give you dreams mostly for yourself, but be on the lookout for dreams that can encourage others. I used to be so sure that 99% of my dreams were about me and only rarely would God ever speak to me for others. Now I’m realizing it’s maybe 10% for me instead of 1%. I believe that my diligence to record my own dreams and ask for interpretation lead to God entrusting me with dreams for others.

Starting this summer, God has revealed things to me about high school friends, current friends, or friends I haven’t seen in a year or two. The other morning I woke up at 3 a.m. I knew I had to record this particular dream at that moment or I would forget it. God wants to see if we will listen even when it’s uncomfortable and you’re being woken up from a deep sleep.

The dream was for my married couple friends. I talked with them on the phone that evening. They confirmed the details. Then I got to rejoice and pray with them! Thank you God for entrusting your kids with insight from you! May you find importance in your night parables, so you can speak life into yourself and those around you.

Mostly, I have learned to have patience for myself. I have wanted to give up so many times when I cannot figure out what God is saying. There are mornings when I am not able to remember my dreams and I get so frustrated. Time and time again, I realize that He is in the process and He delights in our waiting. If not tonight, hope again for the next night to hear what He is saying. Trust Him. Give yourself grace. It’s not just about answers, but about relationship with Him.
