You Will Be Known For How You Loved

How do you best express love towards your friends and family, or better yet, towards those who have not earned your affection, but still require your love?

My co-worker, Molly Fae, and I went to lunch last week and God had spoken to us each individually about buying one another’s lunch. The reason this is something to testify about is because of how the employees reacted.

As we approached the cash register, God whispered to me about buying her lunch. She immediately gasped and said, “I was going to pay for your lunch!”. We both laughed, and two other employees said, “we have never seen this happen”. They were shocked that two people had both wanted to be giving towards one another through buying lunch.

It really has me thinking how much our actions are able portray the heart of God.

A few weeks ago, I had prayed in the morning for God to show me Himself in a particular way. I cannot remember the exact prayer, but I know that this story was the answer.

I came up to this traffic light to see a man asking for money. I was bummed because I had cash the day before, but now I had nothing to give him.

As soon as I had reached for my wallet to double-check and see if I had anything, the man began walking up to one of the cars. Immediately, I was overcome with God’s heart for this man. The person who had waved him over was giving him a chance- hope for the day. I’m not saying that we can end this cycle of people asking for money on the side of the road by just handing them money, but on this particular day, I think this man just needed hope.

Each small thing you do to show love for someone else could actually mean so much more than you think. I felt God’s pleasure over this particular situation and I know He sees each of your efforts to extend a compassionate hand to someone in front of you.

What if our acts of kindness spurred others on to do the same? Just by you offering grace to someone else, it could have a ripple effect to everyone who hears the story or witnesses it first hand. Whether you pay a meal forward at Chick-Fil-A or hold the door open for a stranger, it can all lead to a shift happening in a broken world.

How could you extend love to those around you this week?
